2008 ELECTION CALENDAR

This calendar may be changed by legislation enacted in 2007 or 2008. Additionally, the Board of Elections for New Castle County will set the dates for their 2008 meetings at their October, 2007 meeting.

August 15, 2007 The Department of Elections can begin to accept Affidavits for Absentee Ballots for the 2008 Presidential Primary.
September 13, 2007 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
October 2, 2007 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
October 31, 2007 Last Day to change Political Party Affiliation prior to the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary.
November 8, 2007 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
December 4, 2007 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
December 10, 2007 Deadline for candidates to file for the Presidential Primary with the Commissioner of Elections.
January 1, 2008 The Department of Elections can egin to accept Affidavits for Absentee Ballots for the 2008 Primary and General Elections.
January 1, 2008 Unaffiliated candidates may begin to circulate petitions.
January 8, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
January 12, 2008 Deadline to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary.
January 21, 2008 Deadline for military and overseas citizens to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary.
February 1, 2008 Last Day that the Department of Elections can mail Absentee Ballots for the Presidential Primary.
February 4, 2008 at 12 Noon Deadline for a person to vote by absentee ballot for the Presidential Primary at the Department of Elections.
February 5, 2008 at 8 p.m. Deadline to return an Absentee Ballot for the Presidential Primary to the Department of Elections in order for it to be counted.
February 5, 2008 PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY: Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
February 6, 2008 The period to change political party affiliation reopens.
February 7, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m. The Board will certify the results of the Presidential Primary at this meeting.
March 4, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
March 31, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. Last Day to change your political party affiliation prior to the September 9, 2008 Primary Election.
April 1, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
May 15, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m. The Board will certify the results of the May 13, 2008 School Board Elections.
June 3, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
July 8, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
July 15, 2008 Last Day unaffiliated candidates may circulate petitions.
July 25, 2008 at 12 Noon Deadline for Democrats and Republicans to file for office.
August 1, 2008 at 12 Noon Deadline for filed candidates to withdraw and get back their filing fees.
August 5, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
August 16, 2008 Deadline to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the September 9th Primary Election.
August 25, 2008 Deadline for military and overseas citizens to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the September 9th Primary Election.
September 1, 2008 Deadline at 4:30 p.m. for minor parties to nominate candidates, for the Democratic and Republican Parties to nominate candidates for offices where no one filed as a candidate for their party for an office and for unaffiliated candidates to submit the documents required to declare their candidacy.
September 5, 2008 Last Day that the Department of Elections may mail Absentee Ballots for the Primary Election.
September 8, 2008 at 12 Noon Deadline for a person to vote by absentee ballot for the Presidential Primary at the Department of Elections.
September 9, 2008 at 8 p.m. Deadline to return an Absentee Ballot for the Primary Election to the Department of Elections in order for it to be counted.
September 9, 2008 PRIMARY ELECTION. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
September 11, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m. The Board will certify the Primary Election at this meeting.
October 7, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
October 11, 2008 Last Day to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2008 General Election.
October 20, 2008 Last Day for military and overseas citizens to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2008 General Election.
October 31, 2008 Last Day that the Department of Elections can mail Absentee Ballots for the General Election.
November 3, 2008 at 12 Noon Deadline for a person to vote by absentee ballot for the General Election at the Department of Elections.
November 4, 2008 at 8 p.m. Deadline to return an Absentee Ballot for the General Election to the Department of Elections in order for it to be counted.
November 4, 2008 GENERAL ELECTION. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
November 6, 2008 Canvass of the General Election by the Board of Canvass (Superior Court).
November 11, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m. The Board will certify the City of Wilmington elections at this meeting.
December 2, 2008 Board of Elections Meeting, Carvel State Office Building, 4th Floor, 7 p.m.
