INFORMATION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

GENERAL INFORMATION
DELAWARE CITIZENS
  • If not registered, register to vote. The easiest way is to use the State's online registration tool. Otherwise follow the instructions on this site's Voter Registration page. You must be registered to vote no later than the 4th Saturday before the first election in which you want to vote.
  • Vote by absentee ballot unless you will be able to go to your Polling Place on the day of the election. Do not wait until the last minute, absentee voting by mail takes time. Apply for your ballot at least 30 days before the election in which you want to vote.
OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS WHO ATTEND SCHOOL IN DELAWARE
  • Persons who register to vote in Delaware must be domiciled in the State; that is they are making Delaware their home. Attending school in Delaware is not sufficient to register to vote, the applicant must provide a registrar some objective indicia or proof of his/her intent to make Delaware their home. This intent can be shown by presenting one or more documents listed below:
    • A Delaware Driver's License in the applicant's name;
    • A Delaware vehicle registration in the applicant's name and with his/her address at school;
    • A current lease, utility bill, tuition bill, bank statement, paycheck stub, or credit card statement under the student's name and with his/her address at school; or
    • A Delaware resident income tax return for the most recent year for which a filing is required.
  • If not registered, register to vote in your home state. Go to you state's WEB Site for information on how to register. Most states accept the Federal Mail Application. Do not wait until the last minute, most states require that folks register to vote at least 30 days before an election in which you want to vote.
